Dryland Training ( at the Kids Ability Centre date TBA)
Dryland training is a requirement for all new instructors. It usually takes place in November or December and takes a morning to complete. It is intended as an introduction to the program and covers the following topics.

  • General welcome and introduction to the program
  • Common Disabilities
  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Safe Lifting/Handling Techniques
  • Introduction to the adaptive equipment

On-Hill Training
We have three levels of Instructors. All new instructors will complete a weekend of on hill training for Level One certification. Having completed as season as a level one Instructor you may specialize in a particular piece of equipment or disability. This includes Sitski, Blind and 2/4. This leads to Level 2 certification. The people who train our instructors are themselves Level 3 Instructors.

Level 1 (Chicopee Ski Club Dates TBA)

  • Progressive Skiing (As taught by the CSIA)
  • Instructive Techniques
  • Use of Adaptive Equipment
  • Instructor Appraisal

Level 2 (Caledon Ski Club Dates TBA)

  • Specialized techniques and equipment

Each of the training weekends involves a fair amount of time just teaching, you, the instructor to ski better. This is a great opportunity to give to the community and get great benefits in return.

Regular Program
This runs for an eight week period (conditions permitting) beginning in January. We ski on three nights a week, Monday - Wednesday. Most Instructors teach on just one night but many have such a great time they come out for two or even all three nights.

Special Events
Each year there are two main skiing events in addition to the regular program. London Fun Day and Chicopee Fun Day. On these days we have students and Instructors from all three nights out on the hill for a whole day! M&M provide a barbeque on the hill and races are organised with prizes for all student entrants. This really is a great event and a major feat of organisation.

Instructor Appreciation Day
Having completed training, attended special events, turned out each night in the freezing rain, blizzards, etc our instructors (and of course ALL our volunteers) deserve a lot of thanks. This is a day towards the end of the season where we are invited to Caledon Ski Club at a reduced rate just to ski. We meet many new people getting involved with a program like this and during the season as we are all busy with our students we don't always have the time to get to know each other. This day is the perfect opportunity to just ski with old and new friends. We organize races and all manner or prizes for virtually anything! There is an on hill barbeque and refreshments at the end of the day while presentations and prizes are to had.
